2009-10-24: Stags v's Altrincham FA Cup 4th Qual Round (H)

Grudge, needle, point to prove! Job well done!

After the unsavoury comments and rather unprofessional attitudes and comments by the Altrincham manager when the Stags visited Moss Road in the league a few weeks earlier there was indeed a feelig that as well as being the FA Cup that this game really meant something and there was a point to prove.

Thankfully this was done with consumate ease and total professionalism as the Stags let their football do the talking and swepth the Alty aside with ease.

Two goals from Rob Duffy, both opportunist and strikers goals, but in genral Duffy's performance was spot on with a lot of hard work as well as the goals, maybe something the fans sometimes acuse him of ducking out of at times, but certainly a very good performance.

kyle Perry scored one of the Stags three goals and Ryan Williams pushed, teased, dribbled and kept on tourmenting the Alty defenders all game to earn the sponsors man of the match.

The Alty lost some composure throughout the game and finished off with ten for a poorly timed tackle on Gary Mills.

The main things was that the win was secured, the cup run has a start and maybe a few scores were settled by letting the football do the talking.

Next it's on to Forest Green away in the first round propper with a home game agiinst Histon on the agenda first this saturday, let's hope the crowd turn out again and that there is plenty of vocal support for the boys, the Mill needs to rock to give the players that extra twelth man and keep the push for promotion going.

Yellows, Yellows, Yellows!

The Journey Begins.....

Welcome to the cheap seats....

The first thing: who / what is WSU Lucky Bovril Man?

Well............. the inspiration behind the blog was to create a fans view of the life at Field Mill and all things Mansfield Town FC. Anyone who looks at my photos on flickr (www.flickr.com/axeman3uk)will see that amongst my many genres and styles that I am an avid follower of football and capture many photograpghs when watching Mansfield home and away (althoughh away has been a little limmited as the wife broke her foot so I have been on nurse duties for a little while).

I then decided to try and capture comment and perceptions of the games to go with my photographs......... the idea of the blog was born. But, you may ask (just tell me to stop rambling!) who the heck "lucky Bovril Man" is and why is that the name of the blog????

All very valid questions, indeed.

Well I have a season ticket in the West Stand Upper at Field Mill, my mates suggested this mmay be some kind of ritualistic punishment or torture, but then most of them support Forest so the phrase black and pot and kettle springs to mind! LOL!

Anyway on the whole the season has been positive so far and performances are promising, but there seems to be a direct correlation (may be anecdotal rather than statistical) between the Stags being frustrated on the pitch or generally, to quote DH "not reaching the required standards", and the fella who has a season ticket to our right not purchasing a cup of Bovril before the match from the kiosk in the stand!!!! daft you may say but indeed I implore you to stick with me here as when we are playing, to quote the fella behind us "piss poor", if said fella to my right buys a Bovril at half time things on the whole pick up!

Coincidental???? I think not, football is a game of superstations so why not a lucky cup of Bovril???? Thus WSU (west Stand Upper) Lucky Bovril Man was born, well at least for the purposes of a somewhat lucky rabits foot at the games.

I hope indeed the fella doesn't take insult to his now found cult status as Lucky Bovril Man, after all it's only a bit of fun and football is not a matter of life and death is it???? who am I kidding??? football is way more important.

Anyway there you have it: WSU Lucky Boivril Man.

A fans eye view of the beautiful game down at the Mill, Mansfield Town FC fro the West Stand.

Keep checking back as you'll get photographs, match comment, reports and general baragouin as well as your chance to join the debate, let's try and keep it positive or constructive and not just an excuse to vent frustrations as us football fans sometimes like to do.
